A mother and daughter duo has had the unique opportunity to successfully navigate the health care system simultaneously. Marylou Johnson has had experience with the Generations family in the past which led the duo to choose our facility. Marylou was admitted to Generations at Rock Island due to muscle weakness and an inability to walk. Six days later, her daughter, Amy Thomas, was admitted for rehabilitative therapy after surgery for a torn meniscus.
Thanks to Generations at Rock Island’s partnership with Advanced Therapy Solutions, a team of expert physical and occupational therapists created individualized treatment plans for Marylou and Amy, consistent with their goals to ensure they return home as soon as possible.
Their ATS Therapists were impressed of their progress and determination.
“Amy knew what she had to do to get back home,” commented Kasia Claussen, PT. “Now she is back home assisting her mother.”
“Marylou always gave 100%,” shared Lindsey Manning, COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant).
ATS Therapists utilized parallel bars, stairs and resistance training, along with the state-of-the art OmniCycle, to build strength, regain range of motion and to improve balance and mobility.
After only two weeks of therapy, Amy was able to return home, having regained her balance and improved her range of motion. Two months later, Marylou was able to join Amy, feeling stronger and able to walk on her own.
Both were happy about the time they spent at Generations at Rock Island and the quality care and support they received.
“The therapists were good at working with us to get our strength back,” explained Amy. “Everyone was really friendly. We made lots of friends that we still come back to see.”
They added that they really enjoyed working with Trish Lopez, LPN, and Becky Norstrom, CNA.
